TPT Seller Fees 2026–2027: What the Change Costs You

TPT is replacing Premium with Exclusive Seller membership. See the 2027 payout rates, transaction fees, transition deadlines, and real earnings examples.

Your next $10 TPT sale could pay you $7.75—or $5.20—depending on the seller membership you choose for 2027. For a teacher-author building a business one worksheet, lesson plan, or classroom bundle at a time, that difference deserves a closer look.

TPT seller fees are changing alongside a new membership structure. Premium Seller membership was retired for new sign-ups on October 1, 2026. Sellers now choose between Basic and Exclusive, while existing Premium accounts have a transition period through the end of the year. The biggest practical questions are how much you keep, when your rate changes, and what you agree to in exchange for the higher payout.

This guide separates the immediate announcement from the January 2027 changes, then walks through the numbers so you can update your own forecast. Policy details were checked against TPT's official Help Center on October 3, 2026.

TPT seller fees: Basic vs Exclusive

TPT lists the following membership costs and fees in its official seller fee schedule.

The $29 Basic fee cannot be credited toward a later Exclusive subscription. A free Buyer account remains available for people who only want to shop or download free resources; see TPT's membership overview.

The annual subscription and transaction charges matter because a payout percentage alone does not tell you what lands in your business budget.

The 80% payout does not end immediately for existing Premium Sellers

Existing Premium Sellers keep their 80% payout through December 31, 2026. Those who opt into Exclusive move to 77.5% on January 1, 2027. Existing Premium accounts that do not opt in by year-end convert to Basic on that date, according to TPT's Premium Seller transition FAQ.

New and Basic Sellers joining Exclusive between October 1 and December 31, 2026 also receive an introductory 80% rate until January 1. Their exclusivity obligation starts when they join. Existing Premium Sellers opting in during the transition must meet the exclusivity terms by January 1, 2027. TPT explains the introductory offer in its new and Basic Seller FAQ.

For planning, keep two forecasts: one for the rest of 2026 and one for 2027. Using the introductory rate in a full-year 2027 budget would overstate your expected payout.

What the new payout means on a real sale

The examples below assume one resource per order, the listed price is the actual sale amount, and no other adjustments apply. Figures show payout after the stated transaction fee but before membership costs, taxes, advertising, or production expenses. The Premium column uses the transition-period 80% rate.

For the $2 example, the entire order is below $3, so the $0.15 fee applies to Premium and Exclusive. For the $10 and $20 examples, that fee does not apply. Basic incurs $0.30 per resource in every example.

Notice how the fixed transaction charge weighs more heavily on the lowest-priced product. A $0.30 charge consumes 15% of a $2 sale before you account for TPT's percentage share. That is a reason to review the economics of small products individually rather than relying on your store's average selling price.

How much does the move from 80% to 77.5% cost?

The decrease is 2.5 percentage points. At the same gross sales, the percentage-based payout is 3.125% lower than it was at an 80% rate. Those are two ways of describing the same change, not two separate charges.

Before transaction fees and membership costs, the difference is:

  • $25 less payout on $1,000 in gross sales.
  • $125 less payout on $5,000 in gross sales.
  • $250 less payout on $10,000 in gross sales.

These are calculations from the published rates, not predictions of what any particular store will earn. If your sales volume, prices, or discounts change, your outcome changes too.

For example, a seller forecasting $10,000 in gross sales would move from $8,000 to $7,750 in percentage-based payout. Compare that $250 difference with your actual costs and margins before deciding whether to change prices. A price increase can alter buyer behavior, so it should be evaluated rather than treated as an automatic fix.

What sellers should review before year-end

Start with the products and revenue you already have. A short, useful review can answer more than a long argument about which membership is universally better.

  1. Record your current membership. The transition path depends on whether you are Premium, Basic, or joining for the first time.
  2. Separate gross sales from payout. Forecast the platform percentage, per-resource charges, and subscription cost separately.
  3. Check your other checkout channels. Identify where eligible digital educational resources currently generate paid sales.
  4. Review your smallest orders. Model low-priced products using the order threshold and the number of resources sold.
  5. Make your selection before December 31 if you are Premium. Put the deadline in your calendar and verify the account setting yourself.

The second article, TPT Exclusive vs Basic Seller: Is Exclusivity Worth It?, examines the business trade-off behind those fees. If listing quality is another concern, use the TPT store SEO checklist to review how clearly your products match buyers' needs.
